When I was 7 I was selected for the TOP (Talent Opportunity Program) gymnastics team, which basically fast tracks you to being an elite gymnast. I trained every single day for the next six years, eventually practicing 20+ hours a week. Unsurprisingly I became extremely burnt out by the time I was 14. I quit just before competing level 8.[/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb title=”HIGH SCHOOL” content_max_width=”1100px” _builder_version=”4.5.6″ _module_preset=”default” header_text_align=”center” header_text_color=”#97e3d6″ header_font_size=”29px” header_letter_spacing=”2px” body_font=”Gothic A1||||||||” body_text_color=”#383f47″ body_font_size=”18px” body_line_height=”1.75em” custom_margin=”|||0px|false|false” custom_margin_tablet=”” custom_margin_phone=”|||10px|false|false” custom_margin_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_padding=”25px||50px||false|false” custom_padding_tablet=”” custom_padding_phone=”|10px||10px|false|false” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|phone” hover_enabled=”0″ header_text_shadow_style=”preset1″ header_text_shadow_horizontal_length=”-0.04em” header_text_shadow_color=”#383f47″]

After quitting gymnastics I decided to tryout for my high school’s cheerleading team, and was one of four freshman to make the varsity team. In order to prepare for football season we had summer training sessions and this is when I was first exposed to lifting. Back then I was terrified of looking “manly” so my friends and I would hide in the corner and pretend we were setting up racks whenever the coach walked by… yikes.

Fast forward to my junior year and I decided to try out for the track team. At first I just wanted to run around with my friends, until the pole vaulting coach asked me to join their team. I think I must have pole vaulted in a past life because by the next year I was winning meet after meet and eventually ranked top 10 in the state.

After I graduated high school I had the honor of being selected for the University of Colorado Cheerleading team. As a D1 athlete I was held to a different standard than before. I was expected to be strong and always in peak physical condition. My physique and appearance was part of my sport now. I worked with the athletics trainers three times a week where I learned all the in’s and out’s of weight training. I learned about technique, form, progressive overload and nutrition. The time I spent as an athlete at CU built the foundation for my training today. I graduated in 2019 as the captain of the coed cheerleading team.

After graduation I decided to take fitness into my own hands, using the programs from the CU trainers and tweaking them to best fit my lifestyle. I started a fitness instagram account to hold myself accountable and track my progress.

Looking forward I am working to become a certified personal trainer (CPT), eventually write my own programs and potentially take on clients. Until then I will be in the gym continuing to set, work towards, and achieve my goals.
